Each season, more than one million kids suit up to play high school football but only 30 will receive the coveted Five Star ranking—the highest recognition in collegiate recruiting. In Texas, these top high school football recruits are seen as kings. They gain thousands of followers on social media, sign autographs, and learn how to manage wild fans and aggressive recruiters while keeping up their grades and trying to make their town proud.
With 41 full-ride Division 1 scholarship offers to the top college football programs in the country, strong safety Brandon Jones is one of the most heavily recruited players in America. Not an hour goes by in Brandon’s life without a text, Facebook message, email, Snapchat, or call from an elite head coach.
His father was also a highly recruited college football player, but sadly passed away a few years ago, leaving Brandon without a guide to help him navigate the overwhelming recruiting process. Between classes, while his friends are making weekend plans, Brandon steps away to take calls from the head coaches of legendary football programs. ESPN would kill to know what’s being said in these conversations—conversations that he has fives times a day. Brandon walks this path alone, learning how to internalize the pressure, handle the attentions, and enjoy the last normal moments of his senior year—all while helping his single mom raise his four brothers.
As Signing Day approaches, the stakes continue to mount. With Forty-one offers on the table, this one decision could determine the rest of his life. Granted unparalleled access into Brandon’s life and decision-making process, the one question remains: who will he choose?
FIVE STAR recently won the "Virgin Produced Choice Award" at SeriesFest and is being pitched as a show to various networks and platforms.
